Our activities can be divided in three groups:
  • Rising awareness of the public on its' energy usage, on the impact of energy generation and consumption on everyday life and the environment;
  • Education of target groups - children and young people, entrepreneurs and managers in tourism and other business sectors, financial experts, local government representatives - in topics related to renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and, of course, sustainable development;
  • Cooperation with all stakeholders in the energy sector on mutual creation and implementation of sustainable energy projects.
Significant projects

The web portal MojaEnergija (or translated - MyEnergy), awarded by the Foundation "Hrvoje Požar" for popularization of energy in 2007, is a strategic platform for our activities. The portal is aimed at educating, informing and arising awareness of the Croatian public on energy topics. In addition it endeavors to promote awareness of experts and their role in the development of civil society related with the energy sector. The portal regularly tracks events in the energy sector of interest to our public. As an augmentation, in 2008 a media project "Ispunimo Internet energijom" (in English "Let's fill the Internet with Energy") has been planned with the financial support of the Croatian National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The purpose of this particular sub-project is to develop civil society in the energy sector including environmental protection and sustainable development. This sub-project will encourage stakeholders on publishing and disseminating information; persuade individuals in active involvement on the Portal; etc. Consequently this will create a communication conduit and a dialog via Internet between traditionally opposing parties. Explore the portal at the address www.MojaEnergija.hr

SolCamp is a international project co-financed by the European Commission within the Intelligent Energy Europe programme and coordinated by the German society for solar energy (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sonnenenergie). The objective of the project is to promote and support the use of solar thermal equipment in camps. Camps represent one of the most promising places for solar energy usage, especially for heating water. Apart from the obvious benefits of informing and educating camp owners, it is expected that the installed equipment will also encourage camp visitors, consequently promoting solar energy even further.

"Dialog for sustainable energy" is a project planned for 2008 with the financial support of the Croatian National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The goal of this project is to initiate a more promising cooperation between NGO concerned with environmental protection and the expert community regarding important energy issues. Activities of the project cover the organization and completion of four workshops in four mayor Croatian cities, each workshop devoted to a particular topic. The workshops will be augmented with a follow-up on our portal "MojaEnergija", as well as discussion areas on the same topics. Networking of NGOs and dialogs with experts should produce a more lively communication between stakeholders in energy related projects, thus providing better solutions for sustainable energy development.

Our children's book "Renewable energy sources"
first published in 2006 has been aimed at children attending primary school. The first edition was circulated in Labin and its surrounding area ( Istria ). Since the primary obstacle for renewables is misinformation, the goal of this picture book has been the presentation of concepts of renewable energy sources, sustainable energy and energy conservation. The publication was also presented to primary school teachers together with explanations on how to familiarize children with such a difficult theme. The second edition was distributed during the 2007 Book fair in Pula which included a children's workshop on theme "Renewables". The book in Croatian may be found here.

Educational kit for using solar power is a piece of demonstration equipment for carrying out experiments involving transformation of solar energy to other forms. The "kit" was constructed in 2007 and delivered to "Mate Blažine" h ig h school in Labin. An accompanying teaching material had been also prepared and delivered to the teachers that will use the kit.

Our Solar calculator was created with the intention to help home owners to assess use of solar thermal collectors for heating water. This booklet with simplified calculations allows easy estimation of equipment costs, savings and the payback period. The presentation of the calculator was held in 2005 in Labin. The Calculator was distributed in thousand in Istria.

Infrastructural projects and capacity building

The project "Development and stabilization of DOOR" is carried out with the financial support of the Croatian National Foundation for Civil Society Development. Activities planned for 2008 are directed at building the image and visibility of DOOR. Additionally, training has been intended for the steering committee and project leaders in areas of strategic planning and communication.
